D-Y-N-A-S-T-Y. Minnesota United huffed and puffed, but the Sounders blew the house down and booked a place in MLS Cup to make it four finals in five years and seal their place in league history. Their opponent? The Columbus Crew, in a match that pits arguably the best two teams in the league. First, Andrew, David, Doyle and Charlie explain how the Loons blew their 2-0 lead, the ways in which Brian Schmetzer pulled the right strings and why Seattle is a model club. Plus, reaction to Alejandro Pozuelo’s Landon Donovan MLS MVP season, Gabriel Heinze to Atlanta United, Patrick Vieira’s case to be the manager of Toronto FC and Mauro Manotas’ reported sale to Liga MX.

And then there were four. The Audi MLS Cup Playoffs are just three games away from crowning a 25th MLS Cup champion. Who will it be? Minnesota United rolled Sporting KC behind Kevin ‘Hot Boy’ Molino and Bebelo Reynoso. The Seattle Sounders march to the Cup feels inevitable, and FC Dallas couldn’t stand in their way. Meanwhile, the Revs might be the hottest team in the competition, and the Columbus Crew have home-field advantage should they win. The guys celebrate the Loons dynamic duo, pinpoint what’s missing in Kansas City, explain how Seattle can be beaten, take a close look at the midfield battle between the Crew and Revs then hit all the headlines around the league. Mad Max Fury Road … in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. Hope you were buckled up because Orlando City and Revs had the MLS world on the edge of its seat. In the end, the inevitable: Bruce Arena’s squad is marching on via their DPs, Matt Turner and Tajon Buchanan. Meanwhile, Orlando, Oscar Pareja and Nani are left to wonder … what if? Nashville might wonder the same, but their expansion season is a clear success despite succumbing to the Crew in extra time. To help answer those questions, Steve Zakuani calls in to explain why Seattle-LAFC is liable to be a banger, what’s up with Brian Schmetzer’s contract talks and sort out who can actually make it to MLS Cup to face the … Union! The weather is cooling quickly, and the soccer is starting to give off playoff vibes. The Union had a shot at the first silverware in club history … and fell short in Columbus. The Crew’s stars are back, and they’re feeling it. Meanwhile, pressure is on Philly (and Joe Bendik) to hold Toronto at bay on Decision Day presented by AT&T. Five teams are still battling for two remaining playoff spots in the East, it four teams for two spots in the West. These are unprecedented times, and MLS is taking unprecedented measures to ensure all teams are measured on the same standard. That means points per game will decide playoff seeding and playoff spots. That’s good news for some, and not so good for others. Andrew, David and Charlie weigh in, celebrate another win for the Union, who are on track for their first-ever trophy now that the Supporters’ Shield is back on, then chat with veteran shirt tucker Ray Gaddis, covering the how and why of on-field presentability, the importance of voting and everything in between. Doop! The Union project is fully mature, and they took years of frustrations out on Toronto FC. Andrew, David, Doyle and Calen give Jim Curtin and Philadelphia their due and wonder whether a double is in the cards. A double is possible because the Supporters’ Shield is back, as the decision not to award the trophy in 2020 was reversed by the Supporters’ Shield Foundation. Doyle is, of course, a Shield truther, and he says this proves the trophy means more than it ever has before. Calen, meanwhile, is back on the Carlos Vela hype train, even if LAFC’s star still looks a half step slow. Alicia Rodriguez (SBNation) also drops by to drop some Chicharito and Guillermo Barros Schelotto takes and explain what’s going on in San Jose and Sacramento.

This is not your distraction. It’s not your escape from real life. For some, this is everyday life.

These words adorned the shirts worn on July 8 by nearly 200 black Major League Soccer players, coaches, and staff who gathered for a showing of unity during a summer of historic racial tension in the United States. In the debut episode of The Movement Podcast, host and former MLS player Calen Carr examines how the Black soccer community in MLS embraced the Black Lives Matter movement and formed the Black Players for Change organization. Founded by a collection of prominent players with their own sobering stories of life as Black men in America, the BPC orchestrated a series of demonstrations in July as well as a boycott of nearly all MLS games on one historic night in August, all to raise awareness of racial injustice and police brutality.

Carr offers a candid look at life for these Black players across the North American soccer spectrum via months of interviews with MLS players Warren Creaville, Raymon Gaddis, Jeremy Ebobisse and Ike Opara, as well as passionate supporters eager to join the fight for justice. From the Minneapolis corner where George Floyd died, to a protest in Atlanta following the death of Ahmaud Arbery, to the night when MLS play suddenly stopped after the police shooting of Jacob Blake, players and fans share their experiences from an unprecedented and transformative moment for soccer and social change.
