verybody loves a little midweek action, and Andrew and David break it all down – from Frank Lampard’s first MLS goal to another missed opportunity for the Quakes – before New England’s Diego Fagundez joins to give MLS fans the lowdown on muddin’ with Lee Nguyen, the Revs late-summer runs and his decision to represent Uruguay. Plus, MLS clubs do the business in the CONCACAF Champions League.

In the second segment, the guys take a closer look at what’s turning into a back-and-forth MLS Cup playoff race. Who can clinch this weekend? Whose hopes are slowly dwindling? Can Drogba and Co. knock off the first-place Revs? Can Sporting Kansas City pull out of their recent nosedive? Is the Wiebe curse for real?

The mailbag starts with some CONCACAF Cup roster chatter (no Guardado? USMNT fans can hope), then rumors from around the Copa Centenario water cooler. Will it happen? Soccer fans in the US wait with baited breath. Plus, thoughts on LAFC’s name confirmation and Darlington Nagbe’s United States citizenship and what it could mean for the US national team.

With David on vacation, Andrew calls in an old hand (Simon) to help break down the MLS weekend. Another impressive win for New England, this time in Toronto? Another disappointing loss for Sporting KC? That feeling you're getting is déjà vu as both teams begin to replicate their 2014 surge and slide. Kei Kamara is in the Golden Boot lead, but should he be MVP? Did Michel mean to score on his olimpico? Plus, why Montreal's scoreless draw in LA was the most surprising (and impressive) result of the weekend.

In the second segment, Chicago Fire rookie Matt Polster drops by the studio to chat with Andrew, David and Matt Doyle about his emotional draft day, rookie life, Steven Gerrard fandom, the United States U-23s and his offseason plans, which hopefully include a training stint in Europe.

The mailbag answers one question: Which club (not named the Galaxy) and its fans deserve to win MLS Cup? Be sure to make your opinion known by tweeting @ExtraTimeRadio or emailing the show at extratime@mlssoccer.com.

The MLS train chugs on as Matt Doyle joins the guys to break down the midweek action and look ahead to another weekend with serious MLS Cup Playoff implications. Things are going well in Red Bull land, but should fans feel secure? Are Orlando and NYCFC’s playoff hopes dead? Can Montreal keep the Galaxy from dropping a five-spot? How healthy in Giovinco and how will it affect Toronto’s late push?

In the second segment, it’s all Dax, all the time as the Red Bulls’ captain joins Matt and Andrew for a wide-ranging interview that touches on his engagement, famous dog, Thierry Henry’s New York legacy and the present and future of his new-look club. Plus, find out why New York fans shouldn’t worry about all that contract chatter.

The show concludes with a look at a USMNT loss to Brazil that Matt says was a real bummer and what Jurgen Klinsmann and Co. face ahead of the CONCACAF Cup on Oct. 10. Plus, a domestic MLS sighting and a fact-finding trip to Malta.

After a refreshing holiday weekend that included a truncated MLS slate and plenty of international action, the guys dive right in by discussing Didier Drogba’s historic night in Montreal. Then it’s on to FC Dallas, who knocked off Crew SC, 3-0, with a lineup that included five Homegrown players and two teenagers. Head coach Oscar Pareja says he knows playing kids can be a bit scary, but he’s committed to seeing his project through. The former Colombia international also chimes in on Fabian Castillo’s first call-up.

In the second segment, it’s all United States national team as the Yanks prepare for Mexico on Oct. 10 via friendlies vs. Peru (2-1 win on Friday at RFK Stadium) and Brazil (Tuesday night at Gillette Stadium). What have we learned so far? Is Jozy back in form? Is Matt Besler back out of the cold? Is Gyasi Zardes the key to the attack? Where should Jermaine Jones play? All that, plus a big win for Canada and some CONCACAF craziness.

The mailbag starts with a goalkeeper question that turns into a request for listener feedback. There are still MLS abroad stories rolling in as well, plus a father’s first game with his son…after a trip down from Alaska. Finally, football (soccer) vs. football (the American kind). How do you balance the load come fall?

The guys start with the United States national team and Jurgen Klinsmann, who said some things that got MLSsoccer.com’s own Matt Doyle riled up. Then San Jose forward Quincy Amarikwa joins the show to talk about a new opportunity after his midseason trade from Chicago.

In the second segment, NBC Sports and Travel Channel personality (oh, and former MLS and USMNT player) Kyle Martino sits down with Andrew to talk about his new gig, progress in MLS and the national team’s recent troubles.

The mailbag starts with some gibberish about Dax McCarty before Dave steers the conversation to random MLS sightings (think Finland and Colombia) and a graduate student who needs a way to hold onto his fandom without the benefit of free time.

The guys gather to break down Heineken Rivalry Week, starting with an Atlantic Cup clash that saw the Red Bulls run over a D.C. United squad that's beginning to grow concerned about their current form. In Toronto, the Reds squeaked past the Didier Drogba-less Impact, a result that was the final nail in the coffin for Frank Klopas in Montreal. Mauro Biello is taking over on an interim basis, and RDS' Pat Leduc joins the guys to explain what's going on behind the scenes with the Impact. Plus, Seattle won by the skin of their teeth much to the chagrin of Caleb Porter, and San Jose have now won four straight after a California Clasico win vs. the Galaxy.

Of course, there was plenty of action outside of Heineken Rivalry Week, most notably in the Bronx, where New York City FC lost to Columbus Crew SC and Jason Kreis questioned his team's commitment. Colorado won again to keep their playoff hopes alive, Vancouver lost for the ninth time in nine games in Texas and Fabian Castillo scored then got a Colombia call-up. Speaking of international duty, David and Andrew break down the US national team roster that includes a mixture of World Cup and Gold Cup stars.

In the mailbag, a listener wonders what Kei Kamara would have to do to win MVP, the guys sift through more Timbers-Sounders stories, a San Jose fan bemoans all the Steven Gerrard jerseys at Avaya Stadium and David solicits random MLS sightings in world soccer.

Heineken Rivalry Week is upon us, but first the guys break down all the midweek action from the MLS regular season, Canadian Championship and CONCACAF Champions League. First up, an unexpected loss for the Red Bulls that confirmed Simon’s hot take on the Fire from Monday’s show. But what about that corner kick? PRO says no good, but Dave’s not so sure. While that was going down, the Vancouver Whitecaps lifted a cup and sealed their place in the CCL. Speaking of CCL, which MLS teams are positioned best to advance to the knockout stage?

The weekend gets started with a classic, a Cali Clasico to be specific. Both teams are hot, but can San Jose really knock off the high-flying Galaxy? Then, on Saturday, Canada gets in on the act, as Toronto host Montreal in a matchup of two playoff hopefuls. The Impact need wins, but will they have Didier Drogba to help them get one? Soccer Sunday is the main course, and the Seattle Times’ Matt Pentz and Fox Sports’ John Strong break down #SEAvPOR and #NYvDC.

In the mailbag, the guys give away the Cascadia Crazy 8s from adidas and ponder the future of the Copa Centenario. Plus, which team is being pitched as “Showtime on Grass?”

There’s still plenty to play for in the 2015 season, but can the new-look LA Galaxy be stopped? After the overwhelming display by the defending champions against New York City FC, Simon is ready to call them locks for MLS Cup 2015 except that David, Ben and Arielle aren’t taking the bait. The gang breaks down every matchup from a busy Week 25 in MLS: Drogba’s debut, to Toronto’s Jozy-less domination, San Jose’s reversing fortunes, and lots more.

In the second segment, David, Simon, and Arielle preview the upcoming midweek action highlighted by the Amway Canadian Championship second leg final. Can Vancouver finally break their tournament curse and win their first Voyagers Cup? Plus, we preview the two MLS midweek matches and the CCL group games on tap for this week as the Sounders and Brad Evans prepare for their rematch with Olimpia in Honduras.

And in the mailbag: another FIFA head-scratcher, Sounders fans take issue with Simon Borg (surprise) and what works best for the development of young players? Star players or experienced coaches?

Poku-mania finally touches down in the ETR studio as the man himself joins the gang for the first time. Kwadwo discusses his run of form, the man who discovered him in the NPSL ranks (Eric Wynalda) and the advice that he’s getting from the other NYCFC stars. And we go from the player of the moment, to the result that has everyone talking: Right after Andrew calls them the best team in the league, Sporting Kansas City are humbled by the San Jose Earthquakes in midweek. Plus Simon asks how fans would react if the tables were turned in the case of the Brad Evans-Olimpia CCL brouhaha.

In the second segment, we look forward to a busy MLS weekend with plenty of questions. Is the West superior to the East as Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson claims? Who would you take: Kekuta Manneh or Fabian Castillo? Can NYCFC hang with the LA Galaxy on Sunday? And then there’s the big Didier Drogba debut happening on Saturday night. MLSsoccer.com's Montreal Impact beat writer Olivier Tremblay sets the scene ahead of the sold-out match at Stade Saputo.

In the mailbag, it’s your time to DJ as David goes through the top responses on MLS club anthems. Plus what do you need in your Appalachian Trail survival pack? Apparently a little bit of ETR and much more fun.

After a goal- and drama-packed weekend of the MLS action, the gang jumps in the studio to break it all down, starting with Sporting Kansas City’s historic comeback against the Whitecaps. Plus, Robbie Keane is trying to weasel his way into the MVP race, Kaka’s gone missing, the Red Bulls rolled Toronto FC and Seattle and #TeamOba are back in business.

In the second segment, D.C. United defensive stalwarts Bobby Boswell and Steve Birnbaum sit down with Andrew for a wide-ranging interview that includes the guys’ thoughts on Instant Replay and MLS refereeing, epic trash talkers, ideal MLS dinner partners and Targeted Allocation Money. Don’t miss it.

Down south, the Union booked their second straight US Open Cup final appearance. They’ll take on Sporting KC, and Philly captain Maurice Edu joins the guys to talk Meek Mill, Lamborghinis and the club’s playoff chances.

In the second segment, the guys turn their focus to the MLS weekend. Are Colorado on the right track with their most recent signings? Can Toronto FC deal with the Red Bulls’ pressure after wilting against Sporting KC? Gio-mania in Dallas? Finally, are the Sounders set to turn things around after eight losses in nine? GM and president of soccer Garth Lagerwey says yes following a massive talent influx.

MLS’ most interesting man, ‘Caps centerback Pa Modou Kah, calls in to discuss his newfound knack for goals, fellow Gambian Kekuta Manneh and life in Qatar.

In the second segment, the guys take a look at a trio of midweek games with silverware (or at least the opportunity to play in a final) at stake. That’d be the first leg of the Canadian Championship between Montreal and Vancouver and a pair of US Open Cup semifinals. MLS pool goalkeeper turned Sporting KC standout Tim Melia joins the guys to share his story of perseverance.

United and RSL combined for 10 goals in a match that left Ben Olsen hoarse before Orlando City dropped a nickel on Columbus. Speaking of the Lions, history maker Cyle Larin calls in to talk Kaka, Canada and Rookie of the Year honors.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the rest of the weekend. Nick Rosano jumps in to break down THAT red card on Jozy Altidore, New York’s brotherly love and a comparison between the airport mobs that greeted Didier Drogba and Giovani Dos Santos on arrival. Oh, and CONCACAF Champions League starts on Tuesday. Which MLS team is best equipped to make a run?

The crew is on alert as bears invade ETR. Andrew, Simon, and David break down the MLS weekend dominated by road teams and stats expert Ben "The Research" Baer brings some enlightening facts to the conversation. But the real star of the first segment is the "Dancing Bear," Houston's Will Bruin, who reveals the reasons behind his red-hot goalscoring run, the plan for his recent marriage proposal and his thoughts on a potential USMNT future and the impending arrival of Cubo Torres.

We go international in Segment 2, beginning with the USMNT's historic victory in Amsterdam. Then MLSsoccer.com's Canadian soccer expert Daniel Squizzato delves into the storylines from the Women's World Cup opener, Canada's WWC chances and the upcoming men's national team's qualifying campaign which begins on Thursday against Dominica.

In the mailbag, ETR listeners confront Simon on both Jordan Morris and DC United, and Andrew makes a plea for potential adversaries. All critics welcome.

Simon is back with the gang for a loaded new episode. First, the guys try to find some logic in the often illogical world of MLS while breaking down a packed midweek slate. Then Philly head coach Jim Curtin joins the show to explain how the Union rode out their bad run, discuss the philosophy changes that led to the turnaround, and the future of their ever-changing goalkeeping situation. Plus, Curtin assigns Andrew and Simon a little homework.

It's almost time for kickoff in Edmonton and World Cup fever has finally hit the ETR studio. Caitlin Murray of The Guardian and Soccer by Ives joins the crew to preview the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada. She breaks down the favorites, dark horses, stars to watch, and all your Canada/USA inside scoop. Plus the guys look forward to the US U-20 and USMNT's upcoming matches, and Simon attempts to derail David’s Gedion Zelalem hype train.

In the mailbag, the D.C. United fans sink their claws (Talons) into Simon for consistently picking against them. Beware: the only thing worse than Simon picking against you may be if he picks your team to win.

A star-studded show, and for once it is actually true. In the first segment, newly-minted ETR regular Matt Doyle joins Andrew and David to chat about the weekend action in MLS and USMNT roster. They discuss Giovinco settling in, the best managers in the league at developing young talent and the biggest snubs on the USMNT roster.

In the second segment, Dom Dwyer – and Sydney Leroux, sort of – drop by to talk MLS and the Women's World Cup. Dom gets quizzed on his knowledge of his wife newlyweds-game style with Sydney right there to hold him accountable. He also talks with the guys about his ability to play alongside Kristzian Nemeth, MLS's stronger conference and facing off against Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

In the final segment, Andrew and David break down some USA U-20 action, talk about their must-watch player power rankings, and Jason Kreis’ slow start with NYCFC.

A busy week in North American soccer keeps the guys plenty busy, but first they fill you in on the breaking news that has every soccer fan around the world focused on the FIFA Congress in Zurich. Once that’s out of the way, they hit the results from the US Open Cup Third Round and look forward to a few of the most exciting Fourth Round matchups. Plus, a look back on three 1-0 home wins in MLS midweek action.

After the break, Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle stops by to talk the MLS season so far: who has surprised him most, who is the best American in the league right now and which coaches stand out. Plus, US U-20 World Cup hopes and predictions with a breakdown of who to watch for and what to expect.

Unfortunately, the mailbag waits for another day as the guys book a second straight surprise guest at the final hour. This time US U-20 and Real Salt Lake midfielder Jordan Allen who calls in from around the world. New Zealand, to be exact. He sums up the team’s expectations – knockout stages or bust – and whether Landon Donovan still has it after the MLS and USMNT legend dropped by camp.

It’s a special Tuesday show, and that means you’re in for a treat. Chris Wondolowski joins the guys in the first segment, fresh off joining the MLS Century Club. But what would he have done had he hung up his boots like one college coach suggested? When did he figure it out in MLS and why? And which message from his fellow 100-goal scorers made his heart swell with pride?

In the second segment, the guys talk MLS before chatting with a special guest from south of the border. That’d be Jonathan Bornstein, who scored the biggest goal in Queretaro’s history to book a spot in the LigaMX final. Hear the story straight from Jonny B, as he discusses impending fatherhood, dedicating the goal to his own dad and Ronaldinho’s special tribute.

Finally, in the mailbag, David’s employment status is clarified. Should he stay or should he go? Plus, which ETR mailbag regular bumped into Simon at Red Bull Arena?

The guys spoke to Kyle Beckerman, then the recorder ate the audio. What does that mean for "sound engineer" David? Simon says it's a fireable offense. Let us know what you say in the poll to the right. In the meantime, the guys fill the time by breaking down Wednesday's action and looking ahead to the weekend. Is Columbus-Chicago a rivalry? Is LA rope-a-doping or are they just worse than in years past? Plus, what will Toronto FC do without the injured Jozy Altidore?

In the second segment, Soccer Sunday takes center stage. It's all about Wondo, who is about to hit the MLS Century Club and Andrew says doesn't get enough credit for his efforts. Then the allocation list gets a second look. What if you could choose where Alejandro Bedoya would land? The guys give their preferences for the top USMNT players in Europe.

In the mailbag, fans chime in on the Crew SC-Fire rivalry, Philly's rough start, a new word for MLS rivalries (we swear this is it) and Simon's one-liner.

The one thing Andrew, Simon, and David can predict about MLS is …. that it’s impossible to predict! The guys do their best to wrap their minds around an unpredictable weekend in which Orlando blew out the defending champion Galaxy, NYCFC rallied from two-goals down with 10 men, the Union ground out a win vs. noted grinders D.C. United, and Chad Barrett (not Oba or Deuce) is the star striker in Seattle. New England’s Juan Agudelo chats with Andrew about the birth of “Swagudelo,” fatherhood, his national team future and the Revs’ development.

In the second segment, LAFC’s major stadium announcement takes center stage. With a new soccer-specific stadium (or is it just soccer stadium?) coming into the league in 2018, the guys dive into the details. Plus, what happens when you celebrate a championship you haven’t actually won?

In the mailbag, the final ruling comes down on “Farby” or “Furbie.” Plus, Simon’s disdain for D.C. United, and a discussion on Brek Shea’s soccer development over the years.

Wait, Steven Gerrard said what?! Less pressure in MLS? Hit play to see what the guys thought of the soon-to-be Galaxy star's comments as he prepares to say goodbye to the only club he's ever known. Then stick around for a chat with D.C. United midfielder Perry Kitchen, who has a big event off the field this week, is fielding interest from Europe and has a US national team career to think about. Oh, and what's he think about all this "luck" talk when it comes to D.C. United and their first-place position?

In the second segment, MLS Week 11 takes center stage. Viernes de Futbol is huge this week. Can NYCFC finally rebound? Can the Red Bulls slow down Fabian Castillo, Mauro Diaz and FC Dallas? Saturday is just as good, with a Cascadia battle pitting Vancouver and Seattle and New England hoping to heap more misery on Toronto FC. The guys also welcome friend of the show Brian Sciaretta on to talk Gedion Zelalem and all the moving and shaking from Americans in Europe.

In the mailbag, the "Farby" debate heads in a new direction, listeners pull the homer card and Simon is confronted by his alter egos: Dr. Simon and Mr. Borg.

The derby talk rolls on as the guys discuss the historic RBNY vs. NYCFC match that gave Simon goose bumps on Sunday night. They touch on Jason Kreis' controversial subs, what ails NYCFC and the excellence of the Jesse Marsch’s side. In the other “Soccer Sunday” matchup, Toronto FC fell flat once again in a big moment on their home field. Toronto Sun beat writer Kurt Larson checks in from north of the border to narrow down what’s wrong and how to remedy things before the playoffs slip from sight.

In the second segment, there’s a glut of big weekend results to pore over, including Mauro Diaz’s shining performance in Dallas’ victory against LA and Crew SC knocking off last years “Supporters' Shield” winners. The biggest goal of the weekend, though,  may have come via the head of Orlando City’s center back Aurelien Collin. He talks to the guys about what needs to change for Orlando, his new role with the Lions and the differences between fans and ambitions in Orlando and Kansas City.

In the mailbag, the age-old question draws discussion: what is your favorite “Farby” in MLS? You know, a “farby,” a rivalry between two clubs far apart! Also the listeners have advice to get Simon and David to the Olympic games.

Clearly between the Red Bulls and New York City FC. NYCFC defender Jason Hernandez has played for both teams, was born in New York City and grew up in New Jersey. So what does he think of this whole #NYCSoccerWarz thing?

In the second segment, the focus shifts to the U-20 World Cup. Tab Ramos announced his 20-man roster (one spot is still up for grabs) ahead of the tournament in New Zealand. Who might No. 21 be? What style will the Baby Nats play? Can they win the whole thing? Hear it from their head coach.

A special guest joins the guys in the mailbag as Nepal head coach Jack Stefanowski drops into the studio to tell people how they can help those affected by the earthquake in Kathmandu and the surrounding areas.

In the second segment, the focus is on a different type of football. Former FC Dallas goalkeeper and first round MLS SuperDraft pick Josh Lambo checks in as he prepares for training camp with the San Diego Chargers. He tells the story of his transition from soccer to potential NFL kicker, and shatters Dave’s dreams in the process.

A special guest joins the guys in the mailbag as Nick Rosano joins the group to discuss MLS’s rules announcement, the Timbers scoring woes, and just how wrong Simon is about cell phones on planes.

Simon and David sink their teeth into that debate and they go over the reasons for Montreal's second-half implosion with host Andrew Wiebe, who was at the Big O.

MLS veteran and current leading scorer Kei Kamara also chimes in on the CCL discussion before diving into the reasons behind the hot start by Columbus Crew SC. His five goals may be tops in MLS, but Kamara is not content with how they've come about. Plus, find out which conference he thinks is the best in MLS (hint, hint — it's probably not the one you think).

The Montreal Impact are just 90 minutes away from history. But they'll have to ward off mighty Club America with a brand new goalkeeper for the biggest match in club history. Who will it be? MLSsoccer.com's Olivier Tremblay runs through the options. As for Las Aguilas, they might be on their last legs by the time they get to the Big O, argues ESPNFC.com's Mexican soccer expert Tom Marshall.

The New York Red Bulls are making history of their own as they remain undefeated against an LA Galaxy side which has stumbled on a new star: Bradford Jamieson IV. FutbolMLS.com's Diego Pinzon waxes poetic on the latest Galaxy Homegrown signing, while Andrew Wiebe does a mea culpa when it comes to D.C. United. While expansion sides begin to struggle, another two MLS originals show the rest how it's done.

Five national TV matches are the highlight of the MLS schedule, including a UDN Friday night doubleheader, a "must-win" at the Citrus Bowl (7ET, Fox Sports 1), a peculiar Cascadia derby that might mean more to the Timbers (9:30ET, Fox Sports 1) and a heavyweight NY Red Bulls vs. LA Galaxy clash (5ET, ESPN2) that deserves a dose of LA-NY trash talking courtesy of Galaxy right back Dan Gargan.

After six weeks, who's good and who's bad in MLS? Who knows, it's springtime and that means we're still figuring it all out! Hamid won't have much time to dwell on it, of course, as he is one of 14 MLSers in USMNT camp for Wednesday's friendly against Mexico. Could William Yarbrough get time in goal after making his debut against Denmark? Perhaps, either way the young dual citizen will be pulled both ways as his country of birth takes on his national team. Yarbrough needs a nickname, help us out ETR faithful!

So whether you’re feeling up or down about your club's 2015 fate after a jam-packed slate of games, Andrew, Simon, and David are ready to break it all down. The guys start off with the historic expansion derby in front of 62,000 fans in Orlando, and president and part owner Phil Rawlins (interview starts at 8:01 mark) stops by to discuss his emotions from Sunday, and the club's plans for major crowds.

AGAINST ALL ODDS

One final preseason matchday remains on Saturday and then all eyes turn toward the start of the 2015 regular season on Friday, March 6. And there is already some big news that impacts that first match between the LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire (10 pm ET, UniMas). David and Simon sink their teeth into that as well as the Montreal Impact's shocking result in the Champions League. Meanwhile, the expansion teams continue to grab headlines and a rivalry ranking survey has supporters talking. What will it take for NYCFC vs. RBNY to be as big as RBNY vs. DC?

On the international front, there's a big meeting coming up involving the officials who establish the rules of the game around the world. One of the proposals they're considering is a fourth sub in extratime. But does the idea even make sense? We spoke to a professor who's an expert on the substitution rule and authored a research paper on the topic: Villanova professor and an analytics consultant for Toronto FC, Bret Myers (READ HIS PAPER HERE).

It's the second straight show with a professor dropping soccer knowledge on the show and our mailbag revisits the Cristiano Ronaldo course being offered at the University of British Columbia. We're still taking suggestions on the ExtraTime Fantasy league prize (join at 1183-524) and a medical professional shares a theory on what may have led to Elvis Presley's passing.

The MLS preseason has never offered a weekend richer in talking points. We delve into a few of the meatier topics on this episode: Should MLS rivals face off this close to the regular season (Portland vs. Vancouver)? Should teams that play on opening weekend meet two weeks before, even in an exhibition (NYCFC vs. Orlando City)? Should rookies have to put up with innocent rites of initiation (Whitecaps)? And should LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane have to pass the armband on to Steven Gerrard when he joins the team in the summer?

We move on to the matches that count for real in segment two and the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals which will see two MLS sides in action. Pachuca and Alajuelense expert Eddie Mendez gives you the lowdown on the teams that stand in the way of a potential all-MLS semifinal between Montreal and DC United. Also, is there less buzz around CCL compared to years past? If so, is it justified?

No mailbag today, but we replace it with a topic of discussion most soccer avids will find fascinating: a college course on the topic of Cristiano Ronaldo. We talk to University of British Columbia Professor Luis Aguiar, who came up with the idea. Turns out there's a lot more to Cristiano if you can get past the hair gel and self-absorbed goal celebrations.

Who won and who lost the MLS offseason? Did your team’s moves come out on top or has your club just not done enough. One of the top pickups of the offseason isn’t an MLS newbies, it is league veteran Roger Espinoza. He stops by to discuss his return to Kansas City, wedding gifts for Dom Dwyer, and his time in England.

In the second segment the guys jump into their time machine as they begin to worry about how the 2022 winter World Cup will affect the MLS season. What would you do to fit the season in? And is a 48-team World Cup in two different countries in the cards?

In the mailbag we get a chance to hear who goes on your US Soccer “Mount Rushmore” or if there should even be one. Plus the guys dole out advice to their friend on who he should bring with him to the USA-Mexico friendly. And to close out Simon gets your mouth drooling with his favorite Maltese delicacies (hint: Bugs Bunny won’t be a fan.)

The season is rapidly approaching, but first come the preseason tournaments. Andrew is headed to Charleston. Where is the best February vacation for MLS fans? And what should folks be looking for at home? Expect an improvement in Colorado. That's based on the guys' conversation with Rapids Sporting Director Padraig Smith, who is at the forefront of the performance analytics movement.

In the second segment, the USMNT and USSF get the spotlight. First, after the Hall of Fame inductions, who would go on your American soccer Mount Rushmore. Then, are you seriously still talking about fitness? Yep, as Jurgen Klinsmann "clarified" things on Monday. Finally, Julian Green finds himself in a tough situation. That can't be good.

We finish off with the mailbag, in which Simon goes off the rails, David gets a shot at running things and Andrew doles out advice to yet more fans with identity issues.

It’s expansion fever on the latest edition hosted by Greg Lalas subbing in for Andrew, who caught more than just a fever. The guys glow about NYCFC’s Barcelona-esqe preseason opener and then talk to Orlando City midfielder Amobi Okugo, who takes us into Kaka-mania, the OCSC locker and more. Plus there’s Landon Donovan’s engagement and Toronto FC’s “armband-gate.”

In the second segment it’s all about FIFA and the US national team. There’s another FIFA controversy and this time it involves the breaking news about the 2026 World Cup TV rights and the Under-20 World Cup draw, as the US learned its opponents. Also would Jurgen Klinsmann leave the USA national team for the Aston Villa job?

We finish off with the mailbag and a dramatic turn of events: Simon is back in the listeners’ good graces. And this time it’s Greg’s turn to give supporting advance to conflicted supporters.

January camp is over, but that doesn't mean we're done talking about it. This time, though, the discussion centers around a 2-0 victory against Panama that saw Gyasi Zardes prove he belongs, Clint Dempsey do his thing and Michael Bradley notch an olimpico. What you really want to know is what Simon thinks of Miguel Ibarra's performance, and ETR's resident hot-take expert doesn't disappoint.

In the second segment, the spotlight turns to MLS, where injuries and signings stole the headlines on Monday. Why is Jermaine Jones having surgery? What's wrong with Eddie Johnson? Who is this centerback the Union just signed? Finally, San Jose boss Dominic Kinnear joins the guys to talk homecomings, DPs and Jurgen Klinsmann.

In the mailbag, listeners wonder if Simon soiled himself making noises on the last show, and the conversation, predictably, turns to jam's place in history.

With MLS still getting into the swing of things, Jurgen Klinsmann and the US national team are stealing all the headlines as the Americans winless streak starts to get attention. Klinsmann says fitness is to blame for a 3-2 loss against Chile, but what about the game before that? The guys dig and talk it through. Could the USMNT boss' job be in trouble if the slide continues? Opinions are split.

In the second segment, it's all MLS all the time. In Toronto, Giovinco arrived at the airport to a massive welcome party? When has that happened before? And, more importantly, will he finish the 2015 season as the league's biggest star? Or will Kaka take that title? Or David Villa? Or Steven Gerrard? Maybe Frank Lampard? You get the picture. Plus, which MLS rumors are bogus and which have a grain of truth?

In the mailbag, the guys decide a US Open Cup bracket has to go on the to-do list, wonder about the Rapids' new signings and ponder Julian Green's future career in MLS.

The big news in MLS on Monday revolved around Designated Players, those coming and going. Tim Cahill is gone after agreeing to terminate his contract with the Red Bulls. What will his MLS legacy be? Giovinco, meanwhile, is coming, leaving Juventus early to get his Toronto FC career started ASAP. Farther north, Impact boss Frank Klopas is looking for a striker of his own. Will it be a DP? Can he lead Montreal to a Liga MX upset in CCL?

In the second segment, Columbus Crew SC winger Justin Meram joins the guys to tell stories from the Asian Cup. Iraq and Meram made it to the semifinals before bowing out, but they got the rockstar treatment all tournament from more than a million Iraqi fans in Australia. What's next for Meram at the international level? What did he take away from the whirlwind experience?

In the mailbag, a listener revisits the Ronaldinho conundrum as the magic one wears out his welcome at Queretaro and Simon gets called a hypocrite. You'll have to listen to find out how he reacted.

Look, a real life guest! Real Salt Lake technical director Craig Waibel stops by the studio in the second segment to talk about his transition from rugged defender to front-office executive.

First, though, the guys dissect the blockbuster trade between Montreal and New York with former part-time ETR host (and current full-time New York Red Bulls head coach) Jesse Marsch. They also break down the other moves in MLS circles and wonder whether Juan Agudelo makes the New England Revolution preseason MLS Cup favorites.

In the second segment, the guys react to the USA-Chile match. Does the 3-5-2 experiment have a future? They also touch on Bobby Wood’s future and Jozy Altidore's MLS potential. Then Craig Waibel braves a face-to-face with Andrew, Simon and David to discuss his new role, RSL’s roster, Real Monarchs and the nobility of going with a shaved-head look.

In the mailbag, Gassman makes an appeal for help recording the number of soccer matches he watches in a year, Simon demands David stop making demands and a listener shares important baked-bean safety procedures.

In the second segment, it's all United States all the time. First, the U-20s bucked a terrible start at the CONCACAF U-20 Championships to qualify for the World Cup. Who might have a senior team career in front of them? And speaking of the senior team, who should start against Chile? Will Jurgen Klinsmann play a 3-5-2?

Is there a soccer equivalent?

In the second segment, Portland owner Merritt Paulson joins to offer his thoughts on the direction of the league, big-money DPs and USL PRO's impact on Portland soccer. Find out why he says marketing has nothing to do with the Timbers' transfer business.

That's ... bloody big news, but not a bloody big deal this time around. But is it a good thing for MLS? Will Toronto FC actually make the playoffs?

Altidore is on his way to Southern California, where the US national team is gathered for January camp. It's a welcome break from club life for Bobby Wood. Hear the 1860 Munich man describe how he got frozen out of the club. Could MLS be an option? Sure, says Wood. He just wants to enjoy the game again.

It was a day of new beginnings in Philadelphia on Thursday as the MLS SuperDraft made its yearly splash. Andrew, Simon and David were on the ground to give you the complete wrap from the draft, with exclusive audio from proceedings that saw Canuck U-20 Cyle Larin taken first overall, Cristian Roldan fall down the board and Marcelo Sarvas traded.

Of course, in Toronto, big news was going down with Jozy Altidore and Jermain Defoe. It wasn't pegged as a bloody big deal, rather a shrewd move to replace one unhappy striker with a younger, North American one. But should US fans be unhappy the Yanks biggest stars are landing in the #WeTheNorth? The guys talk that and Sasha Kljestan, who appears headed for LA.

In the mailbag, it's clear USL PRO played a large role in Thursday's SuperDraft proceedings. What's next? Also, the guys give Mix Diskerud advice on where to live and admire Pablo Mastroeni's incredible mustache.

Who is the media member who get the honor alongside Clint Dempsey and Jurgen Klinsmann? That'd be Soccer America's Paul Kennedy, who joins to explain how got that honor and what goes into the vote.

Then, with the MLS SuperDraft looming on Thursday (Live show on MLSsoccer.com and Sirius XM FC), MLSsoccer.com's own Jonathan Yardley calls in from South Florida where the MLS Combine is in full swing. See what's shaking on the ground and who Yardley thinks will go in the top three spots.

In the second segment, the guys turn to the US national team, specifically the U-20s frustrating CONCACAF U-20 Championship start and Klinsmann's January camp decisions. What's wrong with US youth teams? What's up the Olympic and first-team roster mix in Carson?

ESPN's Taylor Twellman gives his thoughts as well and explains why this ETR hit is a little bit different than the rest of them.

That might have been the big news, but there was plenty more filling in the rest of the cracks in MLS. The schedule is out, Generation adidas signings have been announced ahead of the Combine, Garth Lagerwey is on the move, Maurice Edu might have sealed a Union deal, Liam Ridgewell is headed to Wigan and Bakary Soumare dropped a Fire bomb on Chicago.

According to Mr. Sounder, Zach Scott, it's the biggest match in club history.

And while the Western series still rests on a knife's edge, the Eastern Conference Championship is decidedly tilted toward the New England Revolution, who are at home with two away goals to defend vs. New York Red Bulls. Revs right back Andrew Farrell feels like this is his team's big chance to finally get their due on the national stage.

Also, what Landon Donovan will we witness in what may be his last game ever? Who should the Red Bulls start in place of Bradley Wright-Phillips: Saer Sene or Tim Cahill? And is Austin the new Columbus? Lastly, if you listen to ExtraTime Radio in your car, one listener shares a cautionary tale in the mailbag.

The guys chat with one of the roster's youngest stars in Rubio Rubin, who discusses his choice to represent the US over Mexico and Guatemala and even sings a little ditty.

On Thursday, New York City FC unveiled their home jersey, and Sporting Director Claudio Reyna joined the show to talk about the event and building a roster of guys to actually wear the thing. Find out what he had to say about the Frank Lampard situation, a third DP, scouting focuses and the team's future. MLS fans from all markets will want to listen closely to what their newest competitor has planned.

Beard maintenance starts the mailbag, then the guys counsel an MIT professor who's thinking about riding to the game with the enemy and Simon describes the treat that defined his childhood in Malta.

It's down to four in the MLS Cup Playoffs, presented by AT&T. Well, almost. Three are locked in and, as of taping on Monday, Seattle and Dallas were set to battle it out for the final stop. Because of that, the guys start the show with a fake recap of the match, and wouldn't you know it Simon goes against the grain.

After that little excercise, the guys turn their focus to the LA Galaxy's beatdown of Real Salt Lake. Tony Beltran says Landon Donovan "battered" him in recording just the third hat-trick in playoff history. New England battered Columbus on the scoresheet, too, although one of the ETR crew says they pretty much played perfectly.

Meanwhile, in DC, Red Bulls fans didn't exist because nobody saw them on TV. They're still alive, though. Stick around for USMNT and more Lee Nguyen talk as well as Dispersal Draft chatter in the second segment.

In the mailbag, donuts are debated and the guys assure everyone out there that it's nothing but love in the studio.

Four games to decide which four teams will see their MLS Cup dreams live on as the MLS Cup Playoffs, presented by AT&T, ramp up. The guys start by breaking down #DCvNY with the help of Bobby Boswell. He says D.C. United were angry at themselves after that 2-0 defeat at Red Bull Arena in the first leg. Now can they reverse it at home with 1,000-plus New York supporters headed south to RFK? And what about Columbus? Do they stand a chance at Gillette Stadium?

Out West, Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy have yet another playoff battle to settle at StubHub Center. Will we see the Robbie Keane who is a favorite to win MVP or the one who was nowhere to be found in Leg 1? And what about Seattle? They've got to get by Dallas to set up a fairytale Western Conference semifinal.

In the mailbag, Simon gives apple-picking advice, and Andrew's No. 1 fan takes one of the guys to task and praises another. It won't be who you think.

The MLS Cup Playoffs, presented by AT&T, are in full swing, so let's just get into it. But first the guys turn their attention to the away-goals rule. Good? Bad? Indifferent? All of the above.

Out West, it remains tight, with two draws in the opening conference semifinals. Seattle looks to be in position to advance at home, while neither LA or Real Salt Lake are in the drivers seat. But why was the game in Dallas ugly? Why couldn't RSL beat Jaime Penedo? Why is Simon eating an apple?

The Eastern Conference is a little clearer, with New England snatching four away goals and New York smacking D.C. United at home to send the series back to RFK Stadium. Peguy Luyindula is the man of the hour for the Red Bulls, and he joins to talk life in Brooklyn, arguing with Thierry Henry and his role on a team that's all of a sudden rolling at the right time.

There's one Knockout Round game left, but the two-legged postseason fun starts this weekend with the conference semifinals. The guys start off with some Los Angeles FC news and some disagreement about the penalty call that sent Dallas through on Wednesday before turning to the Western Conference's bracket. Can LA get a result at Rio Tinto? Will Mauro Diaz start against Seattle?

It's just as tough out East, with Columbus and New England a battle of purveyors of the beautiful game. Lee Nguyen joins the guys to run the rule over his own incredible season, talks Jermaine Jones' fashion sense and admits he's not sure what the future holds when it comes to international soccer. Plus, who would D.C. United rather face between Sporting KC and New York? And is the ETR curse in effect?

Finally, Andrew wonders how MLS fans might feel if their team reached the brink of a title only to fall short, a la the Royals, and Simon lays out the mechanics of curses.

A Supporters' Shield has been decided. The AT&T MLS Playoffs are set. The Knockout Round looms. ExtraTime Radio has everything you need to know, including news that Chivas USA is ceasing operations with a new team set to begin play in Los Angeles in 2017.

It all starts Wednesday, when Vancouver visit Dallas, and there are some big questions for the 'Caps' Carl Robinson. First, who starts at right back? Second, can the Canadians slow down FC Dallas' set-piece barrage? The guys all agree on a prediction, is that bad news?

The Eastern Conference is a rematch of Sunday night's regular-season finale. The New York Red Bulls are rolling on the back of Bradley Wright-Phillips, who tied the MLS single season scoring record against Kansas City. Sporting KC, meanwhile, are tired. Dog tired. Manager Peter Vermes joins the guys to talk shop, his trip home to New Jersey and offseason movement.

It's Round 33 and that means there's just 90 minutes left take care of any final business before the playoffs begin in earnest. Some teams have more to tend to than others, and the guys start their wide-ranging discussion with the Supporters' Shield matchup going down in Seattle between the Sounders and Galaxy. Whoever comes out on top of that one will face Portland or Vancouver. Will ETR's prediction from a few weeks ago come true? What about all that crazy seeding out East?

We'll have to wait to see how it all turns out, but first we go to ETR fantasy land to create our own playoff brackets based on pure entertainment value. What would you want to see? And how would you prepare MLS teams and future MLS players for the wiles of CONCACAF Champions League? We take a look at the lay of the land with one final CCL group game to go and propose our own CONCACAF camp to get North America's players ready to succeed in the region.

Finally, Sabrina the Teenage Witch makes one final appearance, and the guys debate Landon Donovan's replacement with the Galaxy.

The Columbus Crew are the sensation of the 2014 MLS season and their winger Ethan Finlay is arguably the revelation of the year. Coming off a playoff clinching weekend, we get to know the ex-college superstar who's finally earning praise from the likes of Thierry Henry after two tough seasons to start his pro career. Which national team will he represent -- USA or Canada? And what's with his fascination with The Settlers of Catan?

The other big storylines from the weekend involve the battle for the 5th spot in the West -- Vancouver vs. Portland. Were the Timbers just unlucky? Should the Whitecaps have pushed harder in San Jose? And the Showdown for the Shield goes down to the final weekend: Is Saturday's match vs. LA Galaxy truly the biggest game in Seattle Sounders history?

Plus, which artist do you want to send you off into the sunset at your retirement party? Would Toronto FC ever trade Michael Bradley? And is there a scenario where New England's Lee Nguyen can actually win the MVP award?

Andrew was under a Royals' World Series rock on Wednesday, so the guys walk him through MLS Commissioner Don Garber's response to recent comments by US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann concerning the league. Everyone's got an opinion. Chime in with yours via email.

It's a massive weekend in MLS, and Portland's playoff lives are on the line with Real Salt Lake in town on Friday. Meanwhile, Sunday should be spent in front of the TV if you're an MLS fan. The New York Red Bulls are battling for position, and Mike Petke joins the guys to discuss Thierry Henry's future, BWP for MVP and his Twitter habits.

In the mailbag, we discuss Dominic Kinnear's future and why it worked out for everyone involved, Simon defends Dominic Oduro and we play some MLS-style NBA Jam.

First things first, the guys revisit Landon Donovan's testimonial match on Friday, a 1-1 draw against Ecuador in which the post robbed the USMNT legend of a Derek Jeter-esque moment. But did he cry? Simon says no, while Andrew and David contend he's got more humble pie in his future. LD aside, who looked good? Did the ETR curse strike Joe Gyau? What will the team look like against Honduras with all the big boys called up?

Meanwhile, in MLS, the playoff races have come down to two spots. In the East, Toronto has all but waved the white flag. In the West, it comes down to Cascadia Cup winner Vancouver and Portland. One has a much easier schedule than the other. The Supporters' Shield still comes down to LA and Seattle with a home-and-home series left to finish the regular season.

The Revs sealed their place, and Charlie Davies has been crucial to their current form. On the five-year anniversary of the car accident that threatened his life and career, Davies joins the guys to reflect and look ahead. Ever positive, he says the USMNT isn't out of the question.

In the mailbag, we wonder who the listeners might want as guests, where MLS Cup would be hosted in a perfect world and mull a time capsule to test our ability to predict the future.

With Landon Donovan playing his final game for the USMNT, it's time to start looking ahead to which up-and-comer will take his mantle. Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore will surely carry the torch in the short-term, but which youngster is set to be the next Donovan? Why not winger Joe Gyau, who's making headway at one of the biggest clubs in the world? He tells his story on the show.

From one Black-and-Gold team (Borussia Dortmund) to another one stateside. The Columbus Crew -- rather, Columbus Crew SC beginning in 2015 -- claimed the news headlines in MLS this week with a major signing and a new brand identity, which was unveiled at an event that anointed the first and greatest MLS hype man. The club's owner, Anthony Precourt, joined the guys to discuss his vision for the new-look club.

We also entertain Humble Pie recipes, discuss the MLS edition of the Landon Donovan testimonial and revisit the debate about just how important Tim Cahill is to the New York Red Bulls.
